We are aware that blood transfusions are required for surgeries, accidents & loss of blood, some types of cancer, thalassemia, etc. These few moments are so important they can bridge the gap between life and death.
Millions of patients whose lives depend on blood transfusion owe the indebtedness to millions of blood donors over the world. The only source of blood is a healthy volunteer donor.
Collected blood separated into various components such as red cells, platelets & plasma in the blood bank because different patients need a different type of blood components. The blood obtained through a blood bank is safe & can be transfused to our near. & dear ones.

Tells the story of the first volunteer Blood Bank in Karachi.
“I had joined Patient Welfare Organization (PWA) in 1980 as a student.
Three passionate students of the Dow Medical College made it in 1979. Which used to provide medicine to the patient
In 1981 the main source of blood in Pakistan was a professional donor, they are addict lying addicts Civil Hospital & they were used to sell their blood not once but even twice within the same week.
A normal healthy human can donate blood only once in three months. Their blood had everything except for blood such as Hepatitis HIV, Malaria, Syphilis
In 1981 they went on strike to demand a high price, as they were the only source a lot of people died. Volunteerism doesn’t exist, but it was a blessing in disguise.
We decided we can, t be a hostage to these people. Let’s make our own Blood Bank. So the first voluntary Blood Bank set up was Dow Medical College Karachi by the patient Welfare Association(PWA).
Fortunately, I was its Project Director.
Today this blood bank is run by medical students supplying more than supplying per day.
Professional donors don’t exist no more.”
PWA is a nongovernment, nonpolitical volunteer organization.

PWA‘s Voluntary Blood Bank has become the largest single outlet blood bank in the country with a daily basis output of around 270 blood bags. Each blood bag is screened & tested.
All possible due to generous donors who contribute the form of blood and FINANCE.
The patient welfare association (PWA) lit a candle in the deep darkness gradually it’s the light spread all over Pakistan. Following this model, several organizations are in the field now, providing risk-free, safe blood to all without discrimination & any cost.
There is no substitute for blood and there is no cause nobler than donating blood to save LIFE. The body contains 10 to 12 pints of blood. Only one pint can save 3 lives .we can donate blood after every 3 months at least donate once a year. The entire donation process takes about 60 – 90 minutes.
Excuses never save a life, Blood Donation does.
