Chapter (80)
The pledge of Uqbah Ula & the pledge taken by the people of Madina
During the last section we discussed in details about the meeting that happened between Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) & Saveed who was stationed at Makkah. After his return to Madinah Al Munawarra, he tried to convince his people. But unfortunately he was not able to show up again in the blessed court of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He was killed by the people from tribe of Bani Hazraj. But when was dying, he recited the shahada from his tongue & many historians accepted that from lands of Yathrib, he can be considered as first Muslim. This blessing was given by Almighty Allah in the account of Aus. His inclination towards Islam & teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) acquainted his tribe towards Islam. There is one other narrative that during the fights between Aus & Khazraj, they came to seek the help from Qureysh. But they returned empty handed due to boorish attitude of Abu Jahl. At this moment Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went to meet the people of Aus & gave them invitation of Islam. On listening this Ayyas Bin Moaz (RA) said that this is much better chance in the form invitation even more profitable than the cause of the Aus tribe for which we all showed up here. But the leader of this envoy Abu Al Haith throws pebbles on the mouth of Ayyas bin Moaz. After this incident the war Buath happened in which Ayyas Bin Moaz died & people said that he also recited Shahada on this moment. Then after this during the tenth year of Prophethood, the new reached that a caravan of Khazraj was stationed close to Makkah. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reached the place & gave invitation of Islam to all of them. He recited a verse from Quran. The narrators said, it appears that these people were waiting for a chance. They thought that might be this lesson with reach to the Jews of Madinah. All of them accepted the Islam. According to historians they were total six in number. Their names were Abu Saleem Bin Tahyaan, Abu Umama Asad Bin Zarara, Auf Bin Harith, Rafey bin Malik, Qutba Bin Aamir, Jabir Bin Abdullah Bin Rayyab. During next year again one convoy came that has around seventy two members. From them the twelve members were selected as their leaders. This was called in history as the second pledge of Uqbah. This time these people asked for a designated guide who can teach them about Islam. On this request, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) appointed Moassab Bin Umair (RA) for this task. He also gets this chance again during the battle of Badr. On reaching Madinah Munawarra, he stayed at the home of Saad Bin Zarara who was counted among one of the notable & a rich man of this town. During his stay at Madinah, he used to visit every home of Ansar & gave them invitation of Islam. He used to recite verses of Quran in front of them. Every day at least one or two families accepted his invitation & came in the fold of Islam. Slowly the light of Islam spread from Madinah to Quba. Only few homes were left without Islam in Khatma, Wail, & Waqif who were mainly influenced by one poet & they didn’t accept Islam till the war of Badr. But up to this time, the people from the tribe Aws didn’t accept Islam except those two people who were discussed above. Hazrat Saad bin Aws was the leader of this tribe & the entire clan was under his strong control. The event of his acceptance of Islam is narrated like this. Once he was sitting near the well of Marq, the leaders of the tribe of Abdallah Shahal, Raseed Bin Hadhir passed by him. While he was passing by, Hazrat Saad cursed him & said, O Raseed, your father will die, didn’t you saw an outsider came in our locality & he is trying to deceive all of us. Then he further said to Raseed, you know that I can solve this issue but my relationship with Saad bin Zararah is not good even though, he is my maternal cousin.
