Translation of Dr. Shams Jilani “Roshni Hira Say”
Section 179
Funeral prayer of Uhud martyrs
During the last section, we reached up to the point where the war has been
ended & Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was washing his wounds from the
water brought by Hazrat Ali (RA).
After that, the search for the martyrs started and the Prophet (PBUH) was
most saddened to see the body of Hazrat Hamza (RA). Those who were
mocked i.e. their stomachs were choked and their livers were taken out and
chewed by Hinda bint Uqbah. Seeing this, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was very
saddened and further Ibn Hisham has narrated that the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
kept looking at the dead body of Hazrat Hamza (RA) for some time, which was
badly mutilated. Then addressing Hazrat Hamza (RA) he said that the trouble
that has befallen me because of you will never come again! I (pbuh) have
never stayed in a place that provoked me (pbuh) more than this. Then he said
that Gabriel came to me (RA) and told me that among the people of the seven
heavens, Hamza (RA) bin Abdul Muttalib was welcomed by Allah and the Lion
of Prophet (PBUH) and the lion of Allah was welcomed. Seeing the wrath of
the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the Companions swore that if we were to be
victorious somewhere in the future, we would take revenge in such a way that
the Qureysh would remember it for the rest of their lives. Because it was
common in Arabia to make vow for the revenge and the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
also gave a similar oath by swearing that he would take revenge. But this
verse was revealed at the same time, so the Prophet (PBUH) forgave after the
revelation of these verses:
And if you mete out punishment, then punish similarly as you were afflicted;
and if you patiently endure, then indeed patience is better for the patiently
enduring.((16:126). And O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be
upon him) patiently endure – and your patience is only due to the guidance of
Allah – and do not grieve for them, and do not be disheartened by their deceits.
(16: 127).
Therefore, after the revelation of the verse, the Holy Prophet Muhamad
(PBUH) got patient with it and he issued an order prohibiting the revenge, or
otherwise, he has narrated another tradition on the authority of Hamid Al-
Taweel that Hamid Al-Taweel told Hazrat Hasan (A.S.) and he listened from
Samrah. He said, "It never happened again that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) went
somewhere on a journey and did not enjoin us to give charity and inspired us
not to take revenge." Narrated from Ibn Abbas (R.A.) with two sources.
