Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said the party will strongly resist any attempt to impose governor’s rule or emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 24NewsHD TV repotrted on Tuesday.
Talking to the media at Dahgal checkpoint in Rawalpindi, Gohar said PTI’s call for a long march to Islamabad remained scheduled for October 4.
The party had earlier postponed the march from September 27 following a unanimous decision by its political committee.
He said PTI leaders had met Pakistan Peoples Party representatives as part of efforts by the joint opposition and invited them to an All-Parties Conference (APC).
He said the PPP would inform PTI about its participation after consultation.
According to Gohar, the APC would discuss the overall political and national situation, including the security situation in KP and issues concerning provincial autonomy.
He also expressed concern over the arrest and alleged harassment of lawmakers, saying political parties should agree on a future course of action.
He warned that any move affecting KP’s provincial autonomy could have wider implications for other provinces.
Gohar said PTI wanted political issues to be resolved through constitutional and democratic means, adding that governments should not be removed through unconstitutional measures.
On the long march, he said PTI’s demand was for meetings with Imran Khan and access to medical treatment, and claimed the party had assured authorities that it would neither attack nor storm government buildings.
He also defended KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, saying he had been appointed with the backing of PTI founder Imran Khan and would remain chief minister as long as he retained that support.
