Islamabad (July 2, 2007): Cousin of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Tariq Shafi has recorded his statement before the JIT probing the Panama case. Tariq Shafi has been summoned by the JIT twice before and he had recorded his statement. This is the third time he has recorded the statement.
Tariq Shafi was being summoned by the JIT for the third time today.
Talking to media after recording his statement before the JIT Tariq Shafi said that he was probed over Gulf Steel by the JIT. I have given all the answers to the JIT, he added.
Tariq Shafi also said that he did not give any document to the JIT and that he was not asked by the JIT to appear before it again.
Tariq Shafi had previously submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that he was part of all transactions relating to sale of Dubai properties owned by Mian Sharif, father of PM Nawaz Sharif and transfer of that money to Qatar. The summons also asked the respondents to bring forth relevant documents related to the Sharif family’s financial assets.
Headed by Federal Investigation Agency’s Additional Director General (immigration) Wajid Zia the JIT yesterday prepared questionnaires for Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz .
The JIT has summoned Hasan Nawaz on July 3, his elder brother Hussain Nawaz on July 4 and Maryam Nawaz on July 5.
