Section 192
The battle of Lihaan & Dhat al-Riqa
In the previous episode, we discussed the debate was going on between Amru
bin Kaab & Kaab bin Asad. When Amru bin Kaab tried to convince them
regarding the acceptance of Islam,Kaab bin Asad tried hard to refute him. On
this Amru replied to Kaab, that here, if anyone's word is followed, it is only
yours. The historian remains silent about what happened next, but one thing
becomes clear: they were in the same condition as we are today, having put
the Book behind us and living under the rule of religious and political leaders.
What was their fate? The answer is complete destruction. No man of that tribe
survived, and the entire settlement was wiped out. Both fell victim to the
wrath of God, as you will read ahead. May Allah guide this Ummah, grant it
insight, and protect it from every calamity. Ameen.
Before the Battle of Qurayzah, another incident took place, which, according to
the chronological order, happened first. That is the Battle of Banu Lihyan.
Historians have said that it was named so because many wild "Lihyan"
(tamarind) trees grew there, which were commonly found in that region. After
the battle, one of the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) brought one of these
trees back to Medina, and it remained there until the city fell into ruin and
disrepair. Whether it is still there or not, Allah knows best! All the orchards of
that time were cut down, some of which included trees planted by the blessed
hands of the Prophet (PBUH). So, who would care about the poor tamarind
tree? It is possible that some pilgrim from the Far East or India might have
brought it with them, as tamarind was not common in Arabia at that time.
However, Bayhaqi recorded this event in the year 6 AH and discussed it in
detail.
One thing on which all historians and scholars agree is the permission for the
"Prayer of Fear," which was granted during the Battle of Banu 'Asqaan, and
the revelation of this verse occurred. If we consider this evidence, we will
have to accept that this battle took place in the year 4 AH." As it is confirmed
that the Battle of Khaybar and the Battle of the Trench occurred much later.
Now, let us move forward to the event itself. Historians write that when the
incident of the martyrdom of Hazrat Khubaib (RA) and others occurred, and
this tribe martyred him and his companions, then sold them to the Quraysh in
Medina, it became absolutely clear that they had rebelled against Medina." Let
me know if you'd like more details or clarifications!
