Renowned journalist, columnist, poet and playwright Munnu Bhai passed away in Lahore on Friday .
Munnu Bhai whose real name was Muneer Ahmed Qureshi was under treatment in a hospital at Lahore.
According to the family sources, funeral prayer for his eternal peace will be offered in Riwaz Garden, Lahore after Asr prayer. He will be laid to rest in Miani Sahib Cemetery.
Munnu Bhai remained attached to column writing for more than 50 years. His famous column ‘Gireban’ forced many rulers to analyze themselves.
The daring man wrote great columns pertaining to integrity and received the title of ‘Rashidul Kheri’.
Munnu Bhai also penned down several dramas for Pakistan Television. One of the famous is ‘Sona Chandi’ whereas ‘Jhok Siyal’ also garnered wide praise.
The veteran columnist focused on highlighting country’s economy and the problems faced in general. His columns were converted into a book form by Intezar Hussain.
Later, a manuscript by the name ‘Boond Boond’ was published. His last book was ‘Qatry Mai Darya’ which comprised of 295 columns.
Munnu Bhai was a soft-hearted person and always remained at frontward in social work. He was awarded Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 2007 for his services to the nation.
