GIUSEPPE Conte has been sworn in as Italy’s new Prime Minister, bringing months of political uncertainty to an end . The new government will be an anti-establishment, eurosceptic coalition between Lega and the Five Star Movement.
The swearing in of the new government took place in a ceremony at the Quirinale Palace in Rome.
Lega’s leader Matteo Salvini and M5S leader Luigi Di Maio reached an agreement to form a coalition government and assigned the 18 ministerial posts available after a four-hour long meeting.
Both party leaders will hold the position of deputy prime minister of a government led by the 53-year-old law professor Giuseppe Conte.
Mr Salvini will also hold the position of interior minister, while Mr Di Maio with also take the position as minister of economic development.
