Section 173
Muslims in battlefield & martyrdom of Hazrat Hamza (RA)
During the last section, we reached up to the point where Wahshi was
narrating his life story & escape from the Hejaz region to Syria when Makkah
& Taif was taken by Muslim forces under the leadership of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH). Let continue in the words of Wahshi, as he said,
I felt worried. At that time, I did not understand anything about where I
should go. I was thinking of going to Syria. A person said to me, "Woe to you,
and Allah's Messenger (PBUH) does not kill anyone who accepts his religion."
So when I came to know this, I went to Madinah to attend the service of the
Messenger of Allah. And as soon as I reached in the front of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH), I started to read loudly “Kalima Shahdat”, the words
regarding the declaration of faith in Islam. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) looked at
me with surprise and asked, "Are you an Abyssinian?" I said yes! O Messenger
(PBUH)! Ya Allah said Prophet (PBUH), & then instructed, sit down and tell me
that how you martyred Hazrat Hamza (RA). Therefore, I have narrated the
exact story in the same way that I have just narrated it to you. Hearing this,
the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said or translated, "You are bad, remove your face
from me. I (PBUH) will never see your face again."
From then whenever, I saw Holy Prophet (PBUH), I tried to hide my face. This
continued till the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) passed away. Then during the
time of Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA), when Muslims gathered for fighting against
Musallima Kazaab, I also joined them. I took the same spear that I used
against Hazrat Hamza (RA) during the battle of Uhud.
When there was a clash between the two groups, I asked someone which one
is Musaylima the Liar. He said, I was standing in front. I saw that Musaylima
was standing with a sword in his hand. So I went forward with the intention of
killing him. An Ansar also went forward from the other side. And they stabbed
him, meanwhile I had thrown my weapon, which I saw him hit, but he was
killed anyway. By Allah, he was killed by my tactics or by the Ansar. If he died
by my tactics, then I am proud of the fact that while I killed the best man in the
state of disbelief, I also killed the worst man in the state of Islam. But Ibn Ishaq
(R.A.) narrates another tradition whose narrator is Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar
(RA), and he said, “On the occasion of this battle, he heard a man shouting that
Musaylima the Liar was killed by an Abyssinian slave.
