Pakistan’s first visually impaired judge, Yousaf Saleem never ceases to amaze, showing remarkable performance after deciding 20 cases in three months.
Saleem, a gold medallist from the Punjab University in LLB (Honours) had topped the written exams competing against 6,500 other candidates.
Saleem was initially denied the post on account of his being blind; but was reconsidered for the position of a civil judge after former CJP Mian Saqib Nisar intervened.
Nisar directed the relevant selection committee to reconsider Saleem since he met all other prerequisites and had the needed qualifications.
Saleem is the son of a charted accountant and is visually impaired since birth. He was sworn in as a civil judge in June 2018.
Haste is waste and justice denied is justice delayed. Each case has to be seen in its right perspective in the eyes of law not that due to which we do justice though we can see but being blind and tilt to personal gains. Except few in most cases the delay is caused not only by the bench but largely by the bar in their own interests. In the slang we can saw “mokk mokka” between bench and bar. crime, offences, violation, fraudulent practices in a corrupt society is rampant and has also penetrated in legal system. I look forward that blind and other having gifted vision by all mighty Allah whether it is bench or bar will bring the legal fraternity out of the mire. I pray that they may also have strength and integrity to decide the cases without undue delay.
