Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdaus Ashiq Awan announced that petroleum prices will not be increased at midnight tonight on instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Information Department (PID) in Islamabad, Awan said the prime minister has directed the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to review the price increase recommendation.
Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had recommended increasing petroleum prices by as much as Rs14.37 per litre for petrol raising the price to Rs113.26 per litre.
OGRA had recommended an increase of Rs4.89 per litre in the price of high speed diesel, Rs7.46 per litre increase for kerosene oil and light diesel oil by Rs6.40.
Last month, the government had increased the price of petrol and high speed diesel, taking the per litre price to Rs98.89 and Rs117.43 respectively.
