Today, the Federal Government issued an official notification announcing an increase in the salaries of government employees. The revised salaries will take effect from 1 July 2026. The basic pay scales have also been revised, and these will now be known as the 2026 Pay Scales.

It is worth noting that the previous revision of pay scales took place in 2022. The salaries of all government employees will now be fixed according to the point-to-point formula. A key feature of the new pay scales is that they incorporate the 15% ad hoc relief allowance granted in 2022 and the 10% ad hoc relief allowance granted in 2025 into the basic pay. As a result, employees retiring after 1 July 2026 are expected to receive comparatively higher retirement benefits.

In addition, with effect from 1 July 2026, all government employees will receive a further 7% ad hoc relief allowance. The Federal Ministry of Finance has also constituted an Anomaly Committee to review various pay anomaly cases. The 2026 annual increment will be granted as usual to employees who meet the prescribed conditions.

Because the notification was issued late, the timely disbursement of salaries may be affected.
