The government on Friday increased the price of petrol by Rs14.92 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs15 per litre, according to the latest notification issued on Friday.
Following the increase, the new price of petrol has been fixed at Rs414.78 per litre.
The price hike in petroleum products is expected to further increase transportation costs and add to inflationary pressure across the country.
The revised prices have come into effect immediately after the government’s announcement.
Goods Transporters Increase Fares
Goods transporters have announced a 4% increase in transport fares following the rise in petroleum prices, saying the continuous increase in fuel costs has become unbearable.
Transport leader Malik Shahzad Awan said government policies had forced many people to park their vehicles and demanded the abolition of toll tax, withholding tax and challans. He warned that if the government did not change its policies and provide relief to goods transporters, a nationwide strike could be announced.
