The government negotiating committee has said that its “doors are open” for dialogue with the opposition regarding their anti-government protest.
Led by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, the committing is holding a press conference.
The opposition’s Rehbar Committee has gathered at the residence of JUI-F leader Akram Khan Durrani to decide the future course of the Azadi March.
Among the leaders attending the meeting are PPP’s Farhatullah Babar and Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, PML-N’s Ahsan Iqbal and Ameer Muqam, Awami National Party general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, National Party Senator Tahir Bizenjo, MMA spokesman Owais Noorani, and others.
The meeting will decide whether the Azadi March should be taken towards D-Chowk located in the capital’s red zone or not, sources say.
The committee will also discuss whether it should hold dialogue with the government negotiating committee or not.
JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman has reacted to a statement made by Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, who had yesterday questioned which ‘institution’ the opposition had referred to in their speeches at the Azadi March rally.
Rehman said by talking about the army’s constitutional and legal role, the ISPR chief had himself made clear which ‘institution’ the JUI-F chief was referring to in his address.
