Translation of Dr. Shams Jilani “Roshni Hira Say”
The killing of Abu Jahl and other chiefs, the victory of the Muslims and
some miracles that happened in the Battle of Badr
Section: 140

In the last session, while talking about the Battle of Badr, we went so far as to
say that Abu Jahl, even before the start of the general battle, used the same
bad & cursed words for Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). On this side, there
was this matter and on the other side, two small children were looking for this
unfortunate man (Abu Jahl) who used to curse the messenger of Almighty
Allah and they came to Hazrat Abdul Rahman bin Auf (RA) by chance while
asking him. He was appointed by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to supervise him.
He said, that their height was barely reaching my knees (actually this is a
metaphor commonly used in Arabic to show the age, which is intended to
show that that he was very young) that these two young children’s came to
me, who were from the Ansar, and asked me in whispers, "Do you know Abu
Jahl?" I was very surprised. I asked, what’s your concern with Abu Jahl, why
are you asking about him. They said that we want to kill this man who

invective guy who insults our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). So I
signaled to these children’s that there he was, standing in the midst of his men
under the cover of a bush, watching the spectacle of the battle. Both of them
reached to his place with the speed of arrow. In the meantime any one of Abu
Jahl supporters understood anything, one of them stabbed him and his foot
was cut off near the ankle and fell down. At that time, his son Akramah
stabbed him from behind and cut his hand from the body. Even he was not
able to cope with the assault, the second boy passed by, injuring him further.
And here it was not without concern that the first Mujahideen was one who
chopped his foot from the ankle. These two boys were those who had vowed
that either they would kill Abu Jahl or they would be killed and they were the
first of them to be mentioned. Their names were Hazrat Muad bin Amru (RA)
& Hazrat Maud bin Adhra (RA). According to most of the scholars, the first one
was so much engaged in the war that during fight his arm got chopped &
anchored around the neck. It was some companions who noticed his condition
& removed his injured arm from the trunk. He remained alive till the Caliphate
of Hazrat Utham (RA).
