Section: 115
The battles and struggles of Second Hijra
In previous section, we discussed the battle of Abwa & battle
of Ashira. As some of the incidents in these battles were
similar that’s why they were discussed together. As many
historians agreed that the battle of Buwat is the battle that
took place before the battle of Ashiraa. According to Ibn
Ishaq, the battle of Buwat took place in the month of Rabiul
Awwal in the second year of Hijra. In this battle Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) personally participated & in Madinah,
he (PBUH) appointed a companion to take the care of affairs
whose name was Saaeb Bin Mazoon (RA). But another
eminent historian Waqadi has cited the name of Saad bin
Maaz (RA). May Allah know better? Regarding this battle, all
the historians & narrators agreed unanimously that Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) took unit of cavalry that was made up of
hundred horsemen with them. The flag of this unit was held
by Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqas (RA). The main objective for
dispatching this unit was to stop the unit of Qureysh that has
a cavalry unit & two thousand five hundred camels. They
were marching towards Madinah under the leadership of
Ummaya Ibn Khalf. As this unit of Qureysh has deflected
from the route of Madinah & Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
took the route of Buwat. And then they returned back from
that place. According to Anas Ibn Ishaaq (RA) that only few
days has been passed when Prophet (PBUH) returned from
the site of Asheera. They got the news that Qarz bin Fahri
has stationed in the cave with his people. Ibn Hisham has
cited that he was not stationed in a cave but also planning to
attack on one of the grazing fields of Madinah. In this way,
this was one of the earliest planning of Qureysh to instigate
the Muslims of Madinah. On this news Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) took a unit of companions with him to search his
hiding. And then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reached in a
passage that was located just adjacent to site of Bader.
According to Waqadi, the flag of this unit was given to Hazrat
Ali (RA). Both Waqadi & Ibn Hisham has agreed on this point
that this time, Hazrat Zaid bin Harith (RA) was appointed by
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as in charge of affairs at
Madinah. Karz bin Jafar Fahri on receiving the news of
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) & his cavalry unit absconded
from the site. It has not been clear from the historical review
that why did Karz bin Jafar Fahri came with the intent of
attack. Who were the people behind this? Might be Jews of
Madinah & hypocrites of Madinah send some instigating
messages for an alliance with Qureysh.
