Section 184
Pursuit of Quraish and their escape to Makkah
During last section, we ended our article till Muabid Khazai came in the
service of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He came and expressed his deep
sorrow over yesterday's events and said, "O Muhammad (PBUH), the trouble
that befell you yesterday! It was very difficult for me to endure, and I will the
Almighty Allah protect you from the Qureysh. After that he left and reached
Abu Sufyan, and there he saw Abu Sufyan and his companions planning to
attack Madinah. He asked, "What is the intention now?" So, Abu Sufyan said,
"We have decided that we will go after suppressing the people of Madinah,
because then we might have a good chance." At that time, we have killed most
of their leaders, so we will end this matter forever and return.
They are telling you that they will take their revenge tomorrow, so go back
before they come to you. He also recited a few poems, the meaning of which is
"The noise of the army almost made my camels fall, those people are
advancing like lions and are not unarmed but fully armed". On this, Abu
Sufyan said, "What does he say?" Safwan Ibn Umayyah, who had always been a
man of little courage, and in the battle of Badr, he sent a proxy for fight in his
own place. He became adamant on the issue that its better to go back. And
further said, that I am frightened, now Muslims got infuriated and this will
change the course if again battle took place.
It won't be the same as before, so go back." At the same time, a caravan led by
Abu Qais was passing by. Abu Sufyan sent him a message saying that you will
meet Muhammad (PBUH) & passed our message to him. That caravan met the
Holy Prophet (PBUH) and conveyed his message. The Holy Prophet (PBUH)
heard and said in reply that Allah is sufficient for us (PBUH), and He is our
guardian. So, the Quraysh fled towards Makkah at the same time. When the
Holy Prophet (PBUH) received this information, he said, "By the Holy One in
the name of Allah Whose Power controlled my soul, marks were made on
these stones as divine punishment. If they engaged with us in the morning,
their name and marks would have been erased as they would be the lost time.
Then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) moved towards Madinah Al Munawwara.
Like the previous during this time Abu Aza came as prisoner of war. His case
was still pending, because in the last war, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) forgave
him on the condition that he would not raise the sword against the Muslims
again. But this time he was again seduced by these people, so he told me that I
am a married man, forgive me once again. The narrator is Hazrat Abu Ubaidah
(RA). That the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that now he will not be able to go to
Makkah and proudly say that I deceived Muhammad (PBUH) twice and then
he (PBUH) said, as quoted in this hadith.
ان المو من لا يلدغ في حجر مرتین اضرب عنقه یا عاصم بن ثابت
"Translation of Hadith": A believer should not be pierced twice through the
same hole. Asim bin Thabit, blew his neck with a sword.
Ibn Ishaq (RA) further document this that through this, Allah tested the
Muslims to the full, those who were not blessed with martyrdom, He blessed
them with martyrdom, and those who were hiding disbelief in their hearts
were revealed. And apart from that, the names of all the hypocrites were also
informed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). But he did not attack anyone by
revealing anything with his attitude. Some scholars of Hadith wrote that
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (R.A.) had told those names, and some say that they had told
Hazrat Huzaifa (R.A.) and he did not offer his funeral prayer, while Allah
Ta'ala separated the two fallen. It was revealed to everyone that one group
was involved in Jihad and the other was one that returned from the battlefield.
God knows. But this expedition informed the Ummah forever about the
consequences of disobeying the Prophet (PBUH) so that they would be careful
in the future. That is, whenever you disobey the Prophet (PBUH), you will be
punished. The rest will follow.
