Translation of Dr. Shams Jilani “Roshni Hira Say”
Efforts of some peace loving Qureysh to avoid war, its failure & war
fighting
Section: 135
During the last section we discussed the sermon of Utbah who tried to
persuade the armies of Qureysh for avoiding the war. But Abu Jahl was not
convinced on this suggestion. Hakim then went to Abu Jahl and saw that he
was taking out a piece of armor from the box and preparing it. He said, "O Abu
Hakam, I have been sent to you by Aqaba with this message and I have
listened to what he said." Hearing this, he became agitated and said that he
had been afraid ever since he had seen Muhammad (PBUH) and his
companions. By name of our God, it will not happen until between us &
Muhammad (PBUH), our Gods, Al- Lat & Al- Uzza will not make decision.
And till this point we will not return. In fact, he has seen his son in
Muhammad's (PBUH) army & that’s why, he got frightened.
Then he sent a person to Amir bin Hadhrami with the message that your ally,
Utabh is trying to convince the people to return without war. While your
brother's revenge is before your eyes, arise and demand an oath from the
Qureysh and remind them regarding the blood of your brother. As soon as he
heard this, he started screaming, "Alas, my brother, Umru, my dear brother
Umru." As a result they could not understand the matter and all of them
unanimously agreed to wage a war.
And they disrupted the proposal of Utbah. When this news reached to Utbah,
he said that soon his heart will know whether my opinion was right or his.
And whose chest swelled mine or his. Then Utbah searched headgear for
himself to wear on his head. By chance, he did not find anyone of the same size
as his head, so he wrapped the cloak over his head. And then he declared war.
Now Ibn Ishaq (RA) goes on to say that Al- Aswad al- Mahroomi immediately
stood up and by behavior he was one of the ill-mannered person among them.
He said that I will not only drink the water of this tank, but I will not leave this
suitable for anyone else to drink even if I will die in this struggle. Hazrat
Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib (RA) came forward against him. When both of
them faced each other, he gave such a full blow that his leg was cut from the
middle of the shin. No sooner had he reached the tank than he fell on his
stomach, yet he rushed towards the tank to fulfill his oath while streams of
blood flowed from his wounds. Hazrat Hamza Bin Abdul Muttalib (RA) sent
him to the hell on the tank itself.
Killing of Utbah & Shaybah: After this Utbah along with brother Sheeba &
son Waleed came for the one to one fight. From the armies of Muslims, three
Ansars came out, Hazrat Auf bin Harith (RA), Hazrat Muad bin Harith (RA) and
Abdullah bin Rawaha (RA) came out. Utbah asked them who are you. They
said, "We are from Ansar”. Then Utbah said, 'We have nothing to do with you,'
and called out loudly, 'O Muhammad (PBUH), send people who are related to
us. On listening this, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) send, Hazrat Hamza (RA),
Hazrat Ubiadah bin Harith (RA), and Hazrat Ali bin Abdu Talib (RA). After this
Utbah said, now opponents are up to the mark. Hazrat Ubaidah bin Harith
(RA) started fight with Utbah, Hazrat Ali (RA) with Waleed bin Utbah &
Hazrat Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib (RA) killed Shaybah in first stroke of the
fight. Hazrat Ali bin Abu Talib (RA) killed Waleed bin Utbah & fight of Hazrat
Ubaidah continued with Utbah as Hazrat Ubiadah was weak at that time.
Hazrat Hamza came as reinforcement & he killed Utbah.
