Chapter (79)
The pledge of Uqbah Ula & the pledge taken by the people of Madina
During the last section we discussed in details what happened when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was coming back from the Taif. Also the details of early attempts of Dawa (Invitation towards Islam) were discussed. While coming back from Taif, there was an incident when the group of Jinn’s accepted Islam. This has described in Surah Jinn of Holy Quran. As they were passing by, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was offering prayers with companions. They listened silently the recitation of Holy Quran. They had already listened from their ancestors that one Prophet will come after Hazrat Solomon (PBUH) who will be Prophet for them also. This is how they had sent various groups in different directions. One of this groups passed by this valley where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was offering the prayers. Now we are going to discuss the incident that has turned the fate of Islamic history. It was like this that one person in tribe of Bani Saleem has responsibility of around hundred camels of Saveed bin Safit. With the dispute on its distribution, both of them went to a lady who used to be a fortune teller. This lady gave the decision in the favor of Saveed. When these people reach at that point where the roads for Makkah & Madinah get separated, they have an argument. Saveed asked from him about his camels & at this moment this guy was overcome by greed. On this there was a big fight between both them & Saveed defeated this guy & tied him with rope. After this he brought him in the compound of Amru Bin Auf. From here, he got his share. He was also famous as an Arabic poet among the people of Makkah. His arrival in Makkah became popular among the city. On listening this, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went to meet him. He was invited by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) towards Islam. On this Saveed said may be you also some accounts like I own. On this Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked him, can you please show me your accounts? He said that I have collection of Luqman writings. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that if I will show you something better than this. Then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave him details of the holy Quran. Then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recited the verses of Holy Quran in front of him. He tried to understand those verses & didn’t react in the way like infidels of Makkah. The listening of Holy Quran made a deep impact on his heart. He went to his tribe & said that the news for the arrival of a Prophet that we used to hear from Jews in Madinah has come true. A Prophet with a name of Muhammad (PBUH) has been sent among us & he is resident of Makkah. He further said that I had heard his message & as an Arabic poet, I could definitely say these are the divine words. It can’t be produced by any human being.
