Pakistani legendary comedian Umer Sharif has been laid to rest at a graveyard on the premises of the Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine on Wednesday.
The funeral prayer of Umer Sharif was offered at Umer Sharif Park in Clifton which was attended by a large number of people including politicians and artists.
People from all walks of life came to pay their last respects to the legendary comedian. Actors Rambo, Saud, and PSP chairman Mustafa Kamal were in attendance as well.
Meanwhile, strict security arrangements were made on the occasion; law enforcement personnel were deployed to avoid any security situation.
Earlier, the body, which was draped in the Pakistani flag, was moved in a convoy for the funeral. A large number of people also visited Sharif’s residence to offer their condolences.
The body of legendary actor cum comedian had been transported to the Sindh capital from Germany via a Turkish flag carrier.
It is noteworthy here that the artist was set to resume his journey today to United States (US) for medical treatment three days after his stay in Germany.
Umer Sharif was admitted to a hospital in Germany’s Nuremberg on September 29 as his health condition deteriorated during flight to the United States.
Earlier, the departure of renowned comedian for treatment abroad was postponed due to his critical health. His blood pressure dropped while he was undergoing a dialysis.

En route US, Umer Sharif admitted to hospital in Germany after health deteriorates
Umer Sharif had been admitted to a hospital in Germany’s Nuremberg on Wednesday after his health condition deteriorated during his flight to the United States. The comedian was diagnosed with multiple ailments including coronary conditions.
He was shifted to the hospital after the air ambulance carrying Umer Sharif made a scheduled landing in Germany.
Condolences pour in for Umer Sharif
Senator Faisal Javed, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani extended condolences for Umer Sharif’s wife and family.
PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed his grief at the demise of Umer Sharif, recounting his contributions to the nation. Bilawal also went on to thank the deceased for re-defining comedy in Pakistan.
Celebrities, including those across the borders too, poured in their condolences for the comedian.
“I have beautiful memories associated with Umer Sharif,” said a teary-eyed Salomi. ” He was a wonderful human being, always helped those in need,” she revealed.
Comedian Shakeel Siddiqui dubbed Umer his elder brother. “We are deprived of a legendary comedian today,” he said.
Scriptwriter and director Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar expressed his grief in a heart-felt Twitter post on Saturday.
“Comedy King Omar Sharif dies in German hospital May Allah count him among his closest people.May Allah.”
“Legendary Umar Sharif sahab passed away. I have no words to express my sorrow & sadness. He has spread so much happiness & laughter in his lifetime to be remembered forever,” wrote former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar on Saturday.
Indian comedian Kapil Sharma also bid a final goodbye to the legendary comedian.
Umer Sharif was born on April 19, 1955, in an Urdu speaking family in Liaquatabad, Karachi. The star was well-acclaimed as one of the biggest comedians in Asia.
Some of his applauded stage dramas include Bakra Qiston Pay Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (1989), Dulhan Main Lekar Jaonga, Salam Karachi, Meri Bhi To Eid Karade, Nayee Aami Purana Abba, Yeh Hay Naya Tamasha and Yeh Hay Naya Zamana.

Legendary comedian Umer Sharif left for the US to seek medical treatment Tuesday in an air ambulance.
The actor was shifted to the air ambulance after his immigration process was completed at the airport.
Ambulance 1158 airborne took off after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took care of the comedian’s travelling process.
Earlier, hospital sources said Umer Sharif’s health has improved slightly.
A team of foreign doctors had conducted a medical check-up of the comedian at a private hospital and interacted with him as well.
His family sources disclosed that the doctors’ team had declared Sharif fit for air travel.
Umer Sharif also held a telephonic conversation with his physician Dr Tariq Shahab in the US.
Meanwhile, talking to journalists, his son Jawad Umar had said that his condition is a little better as compared to yesterday.

The US government has issued visas to ailing Umer Sharif and his family members for the legendary artist’s medical treatment in America.Umer Sharif is under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi for multiple ailments and had requested Prime Minister Imran Khan for expediting US visas for his surgery abroad.
Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab confirmed the development and thanked the US consulate for issuing visas.
“Even happier to inform that the visa has been issued just now. Thank u to the team at US Consulate for the support extended,” he tweeted. He added that the air ambulance will arrive tomorrow.
Meanwhile, SAPM Shahbaz Gill said that the family of Umer Sharif has thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for his cooperation in making the visa processes easier.
“The PM is praying for his early recovery,” he said.
Sindh releases Rs40m fund
Addressing a press conference along with Sindh Education and Culture Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah and renowned comedian Umer Sharif’s son Jawad Umer, Murtaza Wahab had on Wednesday said that the Sindh government had sanctioned a grant of Rs40 million for his medical treatment.
He said that the departure of Umer Sharif and his family was expected in the next 24 to 36 hours once the American visas were issued to them.
“The entire Sindh government stood with the ailing comedian and have released funds required for foreign treatment of the renowned entertainer,” he had said.
Wahab had said Sharif was like an asset to the country. “As we got to know about Umer Sharif becoming ill, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that they would never leave alone the person in times of his hardship who had spent his entire life to make other people laugh.”
