Translation of Dr. Shams Jilani “Roshni Hira Say”
Section 181
Funeral prayer of Uhud martyrs

During last section we ended up to the point where we discussed the burial of
Hazrat Abdullah bin Hajjash (RA) with Hazrat Hamza (RA) who was also
maternal nephew of Hazrat Hamza & son of Hazrat Amina bint Abdul Muttalib
(RA). The background was like that Hazrat Abdullah bin Hajash (RA) was send
along with a small military unit towards Taif. Here he got engaged with the
caravan & finally he seized the goods of this caravan that was brought to
Madinah. This resulted in the battle of Badr. Taking care of that time, & their
relationships many people were buried in each grave. Here another virtue was
considered and that was knowledge Which was never considered so
admirable before? That where care was taken to determine who is closely
related, this too care has been taken in account as how many verses of the
Qur'an should be given to whom. Most people were buried there, but some

people's heirs want to take their dead ones back to Madinah & bury in Al-Baq.
For which they got permission, and the proof of this is a specific area in Jannat
Al-Baqi, that is attributed to the name of the martyrs of Uhud. Various
examples were also seen among women; firstly, a female companion from
Banu Dinar came forward. She ran towards the battle and kept asking
everyone about the status of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), even asking them one
by one. While she was searching for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), she
received the news of the martyrdom of his father and finally his son, but he
did not stop until he saw the Prophet (PBUH) with his own eyes. Finally when
she saw the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), she said loudly,

کل مصیبتہ بعدک جلل

This literally means “Total trouble after glory" means if the Holy Prophet
(PBUH) is alive, then there is no trouble or trouble for me.

After that he met Hamna (ra) bint Hajash in Madinah. When she was informed
of his father's martyrdom, she showed patience. Then when she was told
about his uncle Hazrat Hamza (RA), she also showed patience and prayed for
forgiveness. And read Anna Allah and Anna Elahiya. But when the news of the
martyrdom of her husband Hazrat Musab (RA) was told, she started crying.

On this, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "The husband actually has
a place in a woman's heart, so Hamna (R.A.) endured the grief of her brother
and maternal uncle, but could not bear to hear the news of her husband.

Mourning of the Ansar women: This was also a custom in the Ansar that they
used to mourn the dead and usually all the women did it together! So when
the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered Madinah. When he got up, he
saw that the women were mourning, and the Holy Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) said, "But no one is mourning Hamzah?" This probably caused the
Ansar to misunderstand that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was
complaining, although he did not mean that, but rather that he was not doing
any lamentation of Hamza. We have been patient, should you also be patient?
But those people thought it was the opposite, so Hazrat Saad bin Mu'adh (RA)
and Hazrat Usayd bin Hudair (RA) went to their house and instructed the
women to go and mourn for Hazrat Hamza, so they stood at the door of the
mosque and began to mourn. When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) heard the
women crying, he came outside. He (PBUH) said, may Allah have mercy on
you, you have fulfilled your right to comfort. Ibn Hisham (RA ) narrated that
he listened from Abu Ubaid (RA) that when the Messenger of Allah heard the
women crying, he said, "May Allah have mercy on the Ansar, that they are

saddened by this." The ritual of mourning was coming from ancient days and
probably prohibited from the same day. God knows better.
