Translation of Dr. Shams Jilani “Roshni Hira Say”
Efforts of some peace loving Qureysh to avoid war, its failure & war
fighting
Section: 134
During the last section we discussed about Umar bin Wahib who tried to give
good advice to the Qureysh with an intention to avoid the bloody war. It is a
strange coincidence that almost fourteen hundred twenty three years before
this event took place & while describing the blessed biographical account of
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), we had reached till the Ramadan Mubarak. In
the last session, we had reached the point that those people who were peace
loving wanted to avoid war. When Amro bin Wahb was sent to spy about the
news of the arrival of Muslim armies, he came and told that he saw that the
death was hovering there. Let's move on now. Benevolently, he added that
they were all ready to die and that they would not die without at least killing a
large number of the opponents or numbers equal of them. If we lost such a big
number of loved ones who are on both sides, then what is the point of living?
Now whatever you want, please gave your suggestions? On this, Hakim bin
Hizam stood up and went around the people trying to convince them. Then he

came to Uqbah bin Rabi'ah and said, "O Abu Waleed, you are the chief and the
leader of the Qureysh, and they all obey you. Do you have any objection to the
fact that your mention should always be good among them?"
He said, O Hakim, tell me, what is that? He said, "Go back with all the people
and take the burden of Amru bin Al-Hazrami, who was your ally." He said I
agree. So put his responsibility on me, not only his blood, but his property that
was taken away by the people of Madinah, I take responsibility for it.
Then he said, "Now, hurry up and go to Ibn Al-Hanzala (Abu Jahl's mother's
surname). He also said that there is no fear of dissension from anyone else
except him." Then Utba gathered everyone and gave a sermon, O group of
Qureysh! By the name of our God, what will you do by competing with
Muhammad and his companions? If you kill them, then this will become a
larger cause of dissension. One person will always avoid seeing the other
because his relatives like cousin or a member of his family will always
remember this event that someone from his family was killed by us. So let’s go
back from here and leave Muhammad (PBUH) for the competition of all Arabs.
If the other Arabs killed him, then your wish will be fulfilled. If the situation
get reverse, then there will be a soft corner in the heart of Muhammad
(PBUH), that you left back without war.
Cont’d for next week
