Why the enduring wisdom of Caliph Hazrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) remains relevant for today’s generation?

By Rehana Bukhari

The Caliph Hazrat Ali Ibn- Abi Talib (a.s.) possessed profound and enduring knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah, which served as a beacon of light and clear vision to be emulated by today’s generation in dealing with matters relating to faith, justice, and leadership.
On the occasion of martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Ali a. s., we are reminded once again of the golden time of Muslim grandeur where we can see him actively engaged in establishing justice among all segments of society, delivering daily sermons, ensuring timely action and rights of people thus make the believers become more aware of their day to day responsibilities as well as political affairs of the state of Medina.
His political, moral, and social conduct was so admirable that Muslims and non Muslims both sought guidance from him regularly as he did never fix any bar or resistance between himself and the people and they were free to consult him on matters of importance.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) introduced his beloved cousin, nephew and later son in law to the believers and when he was just 9-years old to accept His Uncle’s prophet hood. He was the one who at the young age became the most trusted companion of Muhammad PBUH in fighting the battles and at the times of his hijra/migration to Medina thus protected him from assassination.
His most authentic compilation “Nahj al- Balagha” is variously read, consulted and quoted by all nations as an authentic source of knowledge and answer to all problems faced by the people persisting in current scenario.
His verified and original source of knowledge carries great significance that the Prophet Muhammad PBUH endorsed about it on one occasion in his life time that “I am the city of Knowledge and Ali is its door”.
It is because of this fact that Hazrat Ali a.s. once upon asking as to what was his most desirous wish in his life, he replied that “ Jitna muje ilm tha utna kisne muj se poocha nhe aur jitna ma sakhi tha utna kisi ne muj se manga nhe”, (No one asked me as much as I knew and no one asked me as much as I was a charitable) .
Fuz tu be rub al kaaba
Another trait of caliph ALi a s was the last moments of his life when his murderer attack with sharp injured him with poisonous sword, he uttered these words ” O lord of the Kaab,, I have succeeded. This prompt response to his attack showed how courageous and strong he was at the time of attack that he termed it in these words “Death in prostration is sweater than honey”.
This is an age of digital revolution that our new generation can find all relevant text material in soft to emulate his good traits, lessons , sermons into their practical life and can seek first hand knowledge on theology and religious issues particularly and political economic and social matters generally.
on the martarydom anniversary of Hazrat Ali, the Muslims will seek again the same wisdom and knowledge to resolve current precarious issues in line with Quran and Sunnah injunction and teachings.
