Section: 118
The shifting of Qibla
In previous section, we were discussing the first battle of
Badar. During last section, we discussed that Almighty Allah
removed all the doubts by revealing a verse in the Quran
after this battle. After this the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
took the booty under his possession. And he was waiting for
the instruction from Almighty Allah. In this time, one more
command came from the Almighty Allah. The Almighty Allah
communicated via verse of Holy Quran in the favor of Hazrat
Abd-Allāh ibn Jaḥsh (RA) & his decision to present one fifth
of booty in the court of Almighty Allah & rest to be
distributed among the warriors was considered. From here
till the dooms day, his decision became a part of Islamic Law.
Based on this Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took one fifth of
the booty & distribute rest of it among the warriors.
In this way, this war in the history of Islam had received
considerable attention. Then Qureysh were given
instructions that if they are ready to pay the exchange
amount for their prisoners, & release two of the companions,
Hazrat Utbah bin Ghazwan (RA) & Hazrat Saad bin Abi
Waqas (RA), then their prisoners of the war will be released.
This announcement was also added that if these two
companions who were abdicated outside the war were killed
by Qureysh then all the prisoners will be killed in return.
After this Qureysh gave the return money for their prisoners
& they were released. But during this time, one of their
prisoners, Kisaan was so impressed by the behavior of
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that he accepted Islam. And
then he participated in many battles of Islam and finally he
was martyred in the battle of Beer e Maoona. Uthman Bin
Abdullah returned back to Makkah & died as an infidel. Many
historians had cited that this small engagement laid the
ground for the battle of Badr. To the larger extent, this is
correct. There are many reasons for this. One of them was
the fear that was inflicted on the Qureysh of Makkah that in
future, the Muslims of Madinah will attack their caravan in
future. Though, this was only paranoia of Qureysh. But their
leader Abu Sufiyan took the advantage of this fear. He makes
a false announcement that Muslims are preparing for an
attack. When the people of Makkah sighted that their
caravans that were on the route returned safely, their
leaders tried hard to sustain the same fear among the people
of Makkah. In this moment, many people who were against
the decision of war agreed with Abu Jahl by considering
Muslims of Makkah as a real threat. But we will cover this in
detail later on. According to the timeline, the incident that
took place before this was the shifting of Qibla. According to
Muslim historians, this incident took place in 02 nd Hijri in the
month of Rajab. This was a big test that early Muslims faced.
Even some of them unfortunately abandoned their belief.
