According to the Somali National News Agency, at least 27 individuals, mostly children, lost their lives after remnants of an old bomb detonated
As per reports, the explosion took place in the Murale village in the Janaale area of the eastern Lower Shabelle region.
At least 53 people have also been injured in the blast.
Reports added that the unexploded shells – with which children were playing– were used by the waring factions in Somalia.
Most of the victims were aged between 10 and 15 years, according to news reports.
Reports further added that rainfall had uncovered the unexploded mortar shells.
