A few more miracles and the treatment with the captives of Badr

Section: 146

We were discussing in the previous episode that due to the kind & courteous
behavior of the Muslims towards the captives of Badr, many of them got
converted to Islam. Even the Muslim soldiers (Sahaba) themselves remained
empty stomach & gave their share of the food to the captives.

Many times, it happened that these captives would return them after seeing
their needs, but they would then take them back and this happened again and
again. There was strict instruction that no one will abuse or tease any soldiers
by bad words.

Umm Al- Mu'min (may Allah be pleased with her) was not an exception to this.
Umm Al- Mu'min (may Allah be pleased with her) saw a prisoner and said that
it was better for him to fight and die than to be arrested! So the Prophet ﷺ
expressed his displeasure at this comment of her.

The benevolence of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):

Ibn Mardawiyyah and Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) state in
Mustadrak that Ubaidullah bin Musa and Israel told him about Brahim bin
Muhajir and Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Abbas
(RA), the uncle of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was arrested by one of the Ansar
companion and he was thinking that he should be killed, or handed over to his
men. When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH ) came to know about the intention of
Ansar, he (PBUH) said to the companions, "If my uncle is killed today, then
this night will pass heavy over me again”. After hearing this from the blessed
tongue, Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A.) and Umar (R.A.) went in search of him and
other people also came to know that he was with an Ansari who said that I
will not leave him without killing him. So these people when they reached
them, they said to hand them over to us. This Ansari said, "If this is the order
of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), I will hand it over to you." He took them back and
started explaining to them on the way that if you accept Islam, we will be very
happy. And Hazrat Umar (RA) also said, I would be so happy just like that that
I should have known that my father, Khattab was alive and that he would
accept Islam. Please think about it, how much Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
would be happy if you accept Islam. But he was not ready to accept the belief

of Islam in any way. On the contrary, during this conversation, Abbas did
exchange some harsh words with Hazrat Umar (R.A.) and even Hazrat Abu
Bakr (R.A.) feared that Hazrat Umar (R.A.) who was already in favor of the
execution of the prisoners would kill him. He barely resolved the matter. And
he persuaded them that for the sake of pleasing heart of Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH), we should present him in the noble court of Holy Prophet and they
did so. When the Quraysh ransomed the captives, he himself and his two
nephews were among them, whose names were Aqeel bin Abi Talib and
Nawfal bin Harith bin Abdul Muttalib. Finally, some historians have written
about the two Companions that they were released on the promise of payment
and were warned for non- payment.
