The Balochistan’s budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 is due to be presented in the provincial assembly today (Tuesday).
The Provincial Finance Minister, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, would unveil the budget in the Assembly.
It may be mentioned here that the budget session of Assembly has been convened at 04:00 PM.
According to sources in the Finance Department, preparations for the budget presentation have been finalized.
The total volume of the upcoming budget is expected to exceed Rs. 1,003 billion, and like the current fiscal year, it is expected to be a surplus budget with a surplus of approximately Rs. 20 billion.
Key Highlights of the budget are: salaries of government employees will be increased by 10%, and pensions by 7%, in line with the federal government.
Balochistan is expected to receive Rs. 783 billion from the federal government.
The target for provincial revenue collection is set at Rs. 124 billion.
The non-development budget is likely to be Rs. 800 billion, while the Provincial PSDP (development budget) is expected to be around Rs. 200 billion.
Sectoral allocations include:
Education: Rs. 175 billion
Health: Rs. 110 billion
Law and Order: Rs. 100 billion
Pension Payments: Rs. 90 billion
Around 3,000 new job positions will be announced, mostly in education, health, and police departments.
Rs. 35 billion will be allocated for districts affected by law and order issues, while Rs. 47 billion is proposed for overall district development. Each district will have a development committee.
A modern water filtration plant will be installed in every union council to ensure clean drinking water.
The budget for medicines in hospitals will be increased from Rs. 6 billion to Rs. 8 billion.
The provincial government will also announce steps to reduce provincial expenditures by 30% in the next fiscal year.
