Czech tennis star Marketa Vondrousova on Saturday made history by becoming the first unseeded player to win Wimbledon in the Open era as she swept to a shock 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the final.

Vondrousova, 24, thumped Jabeur — world number six — to lift the Rosewater Dish in a packed out crowed at the Wimbledon.

She upset the odds on Centre Court to win her maiden Grand Slam title at the second attempt after losing to Ash Barty in the 2019 French Open final, AFP reported.

Jabeur, who was in tears after the defeat, remained as the runner-up at Wimbledon for the second successive year. The Tunisian was looking to become the first Arab tennis player to secure a Grand Slam title as well as the first African woman to win one of the four majors.
